The January recruitment period is always a time of intense rumour and possible big-money moves. Numerous high-profile footballers find themselves linked with moves out of their current teams. We examine some of the key names that could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the AFCON, which has kept the player in contention, reports suggest a major transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a brief window at the start of the month. Latest developments point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his services. Other suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The England defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Liverpool collapsing. With his deal due to expire in the close season, January is the London club's final chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, including Manchester City and several continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a January departure is considered unlikely, particularly given the manager's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has found starting opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Although being the side's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has started just a small number of league matches. Reports suggest the North London outfit would be open to a transfer for the right valuation, believed to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be poised for a comeback to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Due to FIFA regulations about playing for two clubs in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool before next season appears to be the only viable outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey forward is in fine form for Juventus this term. With his current contract nearing its end, a host of English sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to retain one of Europe's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This teenager is widely expected to make a major move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing strong competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
